This tile is called "Portal To Valhalla". The design was almost entirely my own idea aside from the chain links which resembles many traditional rope like designs found in viking carvings. Valhalla is a place, like the Christian Heaven, where 1/2 the vikings go when they die. It is a massive hall, big enough to hold all the chosen, where the most powerful God Odin presides, feasting and waiting for the final battle. However, not all vikings are allowed to go to Valhalla. Only 1/2 of viking warriors will be chosen for Valhalla. It is the responsibility of the Valkyrie, female figures (Godess like), to chose from slain vikings who will go to Valhalla.
This tile is designed to represent two Valkyrie and a portal to Valhalla. The sun like design in the center is the portal and the chain links represent a gate.
Whether you are a historian, believer of Viking Traditions, tile collector, politician, or Wall Street Banker you may find symbolism and interest in this unique design. You do not have to be a believer in Norse Mythology to enjoy this tile, but that does not mean we are not all in a continuous state of battle much like a real viking, we all have our struggles even in 2016. There maybe Valkyrie waiting for us all, be it on main street, or in the rural countryside most familiar to the gaze of a viking.
This tile can be hung on a nail or installed in a backsplash.
