A NEW CHAPTER: SPORCK TILEART ODDA
In March 2018 Leif Spørck went on an adventure To Odda Norway. Odda is located in west Norway between Bergen, Haugesund and Stavanger. This picturesque location is home to glaciers, magnificent waterfalls, fjords, mountain hiking and camping galore, Trolltunga, stave churches, sea and mountain fishing, winter and summer skiing both alpine and cross country. Hardanger Fjord is where you find the Sørfjord and this is where you find Odda; apples, cherries, plums, honey, and sheep. Leif decided this was where he was going to start a new adventure.
He bought a 110 year old brick building called Dunkelageret where they made barrels to ship calcium carbide all over the world. This was a smelting factory called Odda Smeltaverka. Built in 1908 by Swedish businessman who bought the land and captured the waterfalls to create energy to run several factories in Odda. This ended tourism in Odda until now. 20 years ago the Smeltaverka closed and Odda has cleansed itself. The sky is no longer filled with smoke and tourists come from far and wide to hike and see Trolltunga.
His love for Norway was passed onto him from his grandfather Claus Spørck. The history of this region and being able to create ceramic tile art in an inspiring place made me fall in love with this community and region of Norway.
